Our Story

From Shared Purpose to a Registered Foundation

HEIRR Foundation was born from over 21 years of combined experience working at the frontlines of social development in India. Co-founders Tanwi Chakraborty and Ananya Das have worked across education, health, nutrition, livelihoods, and women's empowerment and they know exactly what it takes to create lasting change. With a goal to change the vision of social development from charity to impact, from generating give aways to creating opportunities, to convert beneficiaries into community partners, the founders registered this organization.

What HEIRR stands for — Humanity, Empowerment, Inclusion, Resilience, Reform — reflects not just our name, but our entire philosophy of development, i.e, Holistic Empowerment of Humanity through Inclusion within society and Resilient approach towards our goal to Reform the concept of development. We are not a charity. We are an impact partner.

Registered as a Section 8 Company under the Companies Act 2013, HEIRR Foundation operates without profit motive. Every surplus is reinvested in our mission. We are based in West Bengal, working with underserved communities in South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Kolkata, expanding our work to Jharkhand, working with marginalized tribal and OBC communities in Rural Blocks of Ranchi District — with a mandate to scale across India.
